Playing House
Play Parties

Now that you have a collection of dolls, accessories, and furniture, extend play time with toys for play cooking and for entertaining your child's play family and friends.

Start with a sturdy wooden table and chairs. A hardwood table set is perfect and will last forever. Don't scrimp and buy a cheap table and chair set; you'll regret it. We keep our play table in the kitchen and use it all the time.

Next, you need the tableware. Good plastic tableware is best at first. When she's older, your child will love pretty china tea sets and crockery for her parties.

Very young girls do like a play kitchen, but we like to play cook in the real kitchen. A play cookware set and cute apron lets your child pretend to cook while she is learning from you. An Easy-Bake Oven is always fun for preparing treats for her dolls. As she gets older, you can do some real cooking together.

For party time, cut seasonal fabric into a tablecloth, placemats, and napkins. Add a pretend birthday cake and tea service; and, dress the dolls and animals in their best outfits. We like to accesorize the dolls with jewelry, hairbows, birthday hats, and tiaras that I pick up in the bargain bins while shopping. Your child will have an afternoon of very special pretend play while she gets the dolls and animals ready for the party and prepares the table. And, the best part is that Mom gets to play too!
