Make an Internet Games Page for Your Child

by Kimberly L. Keith
for About.com

With safety and ease of use as my goal for a "Internet Games Start Page" for my young child, I found that the best solution was to create a clickable document on my computer. This simple web page was never placed on the web. It resides in My Documents, but looks and acts just like a personal web page on the Internet. I chose the games I thought she would like, and placed links to them on her page. When she wants to play online, I simply open the browser to her page and let her surf quickly to her favorite games. Here's how you can make a simple Internet Games page for your young child.

1. Use an easy html editor or Word to open a new blank document.

2. Find a cute background that your child will like. Insert the background into the document.

3. Title the page "[Your Child's Name] Games".

4. Surf for games that you think your child will enjoy. When you find one, type the name of the game in a large bold font on the document. Copy the URL of the game's start page. Insert the game link into the hyperlink field for the text.

5. Save the page to your My Documents folder.

6. Open your Internet browser. Click File, Open, then Browse for the document you saved in the My Documents folder. Click Open.

7. When you see the page in your browser, Add it to your Favorites or Bookmarks.

Now, when your little one wants to play on the computer you can open her games page, and let her safely surf to the games you have chosen for her.
