IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act): The predecessor of the Education for All Handicapped Children Act, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, commonly known as IDEA, is a federal law outlining how states provide services to children with disabilities, ages birth to 21. This includes early intervention services, special education services and related services for children who meet the criteria for one of the 13 defined categories of disability.
Also Known As: IDEA 2004 as the law was reauthorized with some minor changes in 2004.
