Kids' Healthy Recipe Collection

by Kimberly L. Keith
for About.com

Because weight is an issue that we are working on with my child, I needed to get creative to adapt our favorite recipes to reduce fats and sugars. Since I prided myself on being the mom who makes the best cupcakes in town, it's been a challenge to change those habits without sacrificing the fun of pleasing my family with their favorite dishes.

In our busy household, quick and easy dishes are a necessity. My goal for this recipe collection is to find recipes that are also nutrient-rich, high fiber, low fat, and low sugar.

I've gotten lots of ideas from the great cooks among my family and friends, and share these recipes in the hope that they spark your creativity to achieve a more balanced and healthful diet for your family.

Have you modified or created a recipe that your kids enjoy, which meets one or more of the healthy, low-fat, and easy criteria above. Send it in and maybe you'll see it in the Parenting of K-6 Kids' Healthy Recipe Collection. We'll be adding to the collection, and we hope many of the recipes find their way into your healthy cooking for kids routine.
