Word Go Fish

by Kimberly L. Keith
for About.com

Make a deck of playing cards using unlined 5 X 8 notecards. Write a sight word on the right and left halves of the card, and cut in half. Make about 24 sets. Mix the cards and deal each player 8 cards. Play is the same as 'Go Fish'. Player 1 asks player 2 for a word that they hold in their hand. Player 2 must give the card if it is in his hand, or player 1 must draw from the pile. When a match is made, the player puts it face up in front of him. Play continues until all cards are matched, and the winner is the player with the most matches. *Adapted from READ*WRITE*NOW Activities for Reading and Writing Fun.

Pat B at The Teachers' Net Lesson Exchange suggests another game using sight word cards - Bang. Make another card with the word 'Bang!' Put the word cards in a bucket. Take turns drawing a card and reading it. Keep the cards you read correctly. If you get the Bang! card, put all of your cards back in the bucket. The winner has the most cards when the bucket is empty.
