Week Five Assignments

Reading:

Keep up the reading this week. Think about what kinds of books you like - stories about real kids' lives? Kids and animals? Sports stories? Adventure or fantasy stories?

What time of day do you like to read? Try doing your reading after lunch when you are feeling relaxed.

[Parents: If your child is losing steam with reading, pull out some favorite picture books from the past and read them together this week.]

Math:

Play The Number Club with a deck of regular playing cards.

[Parents: Read the instructions by Linda Paulsen. This is a simple but fun card game.]

Writing, Spelling, Vocabulary:

Do the Myth Writing Workshop online at Scholastic.

  1. Work through each step to write your own myth. Write the story and illustrate it on plain paper pages.
  2. Share it with the family at dinner this week.

[Parents: With young children, you will need to guide them through this activity. Let them make up a myth and dictate it to you. Ask questions to get them to think through the story. Write the story and let them draw pictures.]
