Top 9 Online Games for Early Elementary Ages

by Kimberly L. Keith
for About.com

Early elementary age children often need parents' help to read instructions and get them started on a computer game. At this age, it's especially important to find an online game that is appropriate to your child's interest and ability, help them get started, and then save the bookmark if they like it.

1. Nick.com Games Online

With their strong tie-in to the great Nickelodeon programming, your child has probably found these online games already. You must register for a Nickname and password, so read your privacy options before signing up.

2. CBeebies at BBC

Lots of games for little kids from the BBC CBeebies page.

3. Pauly's Playhouse Online Games

Simple colorful games that are perfect for early elementary kids. The games load fast and Pauly sneaks in a learning game occasionally.

4. Lego Club Games

These are the perfect challenge for young elementary, though parents may need to help them get started by reading instructions.

5. Highlights Kids Hidden Pictures

Kids have played Hidden Pictures in Highlights magazine forever. Now find the online version (or click Hidden Pictures on the menu to get printable versions). Classic fun from Highlights Kids.

6. Barbie.com Games Online

Start at the Games page, but your daughter can surf around the whole site and find interactive games, music, and of course, fashion. Mindless commercial fun, but if you don't mind that sort of thing, it's fairly well done for early elementary kids. We like playing the online piano at Let's Make Music.

7. Yahooligans Games

Great selection of games that are kid appropriate at Yahooligans.

8. Slime Slinger Online Game

Have fun shooting slime at the monsters with one of the best arcade style online games for kids, from Goosebumps at Scholastic.com.

9. Chicken Stacker

Cute, funny, good graphics, a learning component. We like this quick online game from Between the Lions at PBS.com.
