Virtual Pets

Virtual pets continue to captaure the imagination of kids and parents. Virtual pets are an interesting example of old-fashioned doll play combined with modern electronic game.

I learned from babysitting our virtual pets that you have to invest some time and attention in learning how to take care of the pet to win the game. Kids pick it up quickly; but you might have to virtual pet sit also, so learn the game!

I think virtual pets teach some good lessons in a fun way. If your child wants a virtual pet, these are some of our favorites.

Furby He's our favorite virtual pet because he's plush, convenient to carry around, and very engaging. Compare Prices

Nintendogs OK, we bought the Nintendo DS just to get this game and we love it. This may be the perfect pet, and it's certainly the perfect video game for kids. Choose your favorite breed. Compare Prices

Pixel Chix This is a different take on the virtual pet idea. It's a girl in a house; and your daughter interacts with her by giving her advice on things she does, such as where to go, what to wear, and so on. Compare Prices

Tamagotchi Connection [Version 3] Released in 2006, the new generation of the original virtual pet adds a larger display and more power, interactivity with other Tamagotchi's nearby, and a web site to extend the fun. Go to Tamagotchi Town
