When kids come down with a cold or the flu, they can usually be treated at home with bed rest and plenty of fluids. Symptoms of swine flu are very similar to those of the regular flu. They include: fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, chills, headache, and fatigue. In some cases, diarrhea and vomiting may be present.If you suspect that your child may have swine flu, call your doctor for advice about treatment.
But if your parental instinct tells you something is wrong, or if you spot any of the following symptoms, get medical attention immediately.
Call Your Doctor and Seek Emergency Medical Attention Right Away If Your Child:
- Is breathing rapidly or has trouble breathing
- Has a bluish or gray color to his skin tone
- Is vomiting persistently and repeatedly
- Is not interested in playing or interacting
- Isn’t drinking enough fluids or urinating
- Is not able to wake easily from sleep
- Is so irritable or agitated that she does not want to be held
- Has flu-like symptoms that improve and then return, accompanied by a fever and a worsened cough
