Deep Web Fun for Families

by Kimberly L. Keith
for About.com

Families just want to find fun on the Web. But some content, while searchable, is buried deep within a site and just doesn't show up in a Google search. Games, crafts, and other fun ideas for kids and families are on the Web, and here's how to find them.

Party Game Central Find hundreds of party games from this page at Party Game Central.

Family Fun Game Finder Choose an Age, Type of Game, Number of Participants, or Occasion to access even more games from Family Fun.

Family Fun Craft Finder Choose the Season/Holiday/Occasion, Age, Time Needed, or Craft Group to access the huge list of great crafts from Family Fun.

Crayola Arts and Crafts Choose Activity, Theme, or Media to access the database of arts and crafts from Crayola.

Elmers.com Project Ideas Choose For Parents and Kids, For Teachers, For Crafters, or For Woodworkers; and, then drill down to the arts and crafts projects with glue.

PBS Teacher Source Learning can be fun too, especially at the awesome PBS site. I like to Browse at this deep site, either in the Parents Section or from the left navigation by school subject. Use drop-down menus to drill into the content for families with elementary children. One of my favorite topics at PBS starts with the Ancestors mini-site and for kids - Searching for Attic Artifacts, Interactive Family Tree, and Making a Mutimedia Family Storybook.

Federal Resources for Education Excellence - FREE I like to start at the Site Map at the FREE site to get an overall picture of the huge cache of learning fun from 30 different federal agencies and organizations such as the Library of Congress, Smithsonian Institution, Kennedy Center, and NASA.
