Parenting Experts on the Web
Since my last feature on Parenting Experts on the Web (Feature 03/15/97) I have found some changes and additions that I would like to share with you. Many of the best parenting experts can be found on the BIG parenting sites, such as Parent Time, Family.com, Parent Soup, Parents Place, and Family Education Network. Every one of these large sites has reorganized over the last few months and have added experts to their sites or changed URL's. These are great resources for parents with questions. You can look at the lists of previously-answered questions or ask a question yourself!
My Favorite Parenting Experts at the BIG Parenting Sites
Parent Time has a long list of experts contributing to their great site. New to the site are Kathryn Kvols and Betty Towry who bring parenting wisdom that is well-known to those of us who have followed them at the Positive Parenting site. Dr. Mark Goulston is a marriage and family therapist who will answer questions at the Couples' Coach board and chat. Charlene C. Giannetti and Margaret Sagarese, authors of The Roller-Coaster Years focus on issues for parents of middle-school through teen children and working parents. Deb Sheehan, LCSW hosts the Behavior and Discipline Board. Dr. Nancy Snyderman offers advice on parent and child health. Dale Burg has tips for home management. Dale has to be the smartest and most creative person I have ever seen on the 'Net. You will love her ideas.
Jan Faull, a child development and behavior specialist can now be found at Family.com. Read her current column in the Parenting section or her questions and answers on the Family.com board. Other experts at Family.com include Penelope Leach, Barton Schmitt, M.D., and Tom and Susan Price. The Price's discuss issues for working parents. Leach and Schmitt's articles are geared to babies - preschoolers. See them on Family.com's Parenting Page. Tip: Look at the Drop-Down Menu.
Carlton Kendrick, EdM, LCSW, a family therapist, is featured at Family Education Network. Also at Family Education Network you will find these parenting experts, Dr. Shari Nethersole, pediatrician, Dr. Henry Bernstein, pediatrician, and Barbara Callaghan, teacher.
At Parent Soup you will find Don and Jeanne Elium. This husband and wife are experts in family therapy and child behavior issues. You may recognize them as the authors of the popular How to Raise a Son and How to Raise a Daughter books. Also, do not miss Joan Bergstrom, an expert on education and child activities. She always has great ideas.
Dr. Gayle Peterson is the newest expert at Parents Place. A family therapist, she has lots of great advice for parents, particularly on the topic of Making Healthy Families. You can also "Ask the Dentist", Dr. Kimberly Loos, at Parents Place. You will find excellent health-related advice at this site from Dr. Robert Steele. Stepfamily issues are addressed by Peter W. Gerlach, MSW of the Stepfamily Association of Illinois. These resources are very extensive and extremely helpful for stepfamilies.
