Do you know what core words are or what reading with prosody means? What about ways you can help your grade-schooler become a fluent reader or what questions to ask at parent-teacher conferences?

About.com's Contributing Writer Amanda Morin has the latest info about school trends; terms you might hear teachers use about learning basics in classrooms; and what parents need to know to help their child -- and themselves -- navigate a successful school year.

Amanda has worked as a kindergarten teacher and early intervention specialist for nearly 10 years. She has worked with special-needs children and has taught parenting classes and is herself the mother of three children ranging in age from newborn to teenager.

We are glad to have her expertise on school (I myself have gleaned some very helpful information that I know I'll use this school year!). Please check out her articles on the School section of my site.
