This past Saturday, Hillandale Farms of Iowa Inc issued a recall of 170 million eggs sold in 14 states. The recall was issued because health officials have found that salmonella illnesses were associated with these eggs. Here's what consumers need to know:
The brand names include Hillandale Farms, Sunny Farms, Sunny Meadow, Wholesome Farms, and West Creek.
The eggs were distributed in the following states: Arkansas, California, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Texas, and Wisconsin.
This latest recall follows a previous egg recall that was issued last week by another Iowa producer, Wright County Egg. In that recall, 380 million eggs were yanked off the shelves because of concerns about salmonella.
For a list of recalled egg brands and plant numbers of recalled eggs, check out the Food and Drug Administration's website. And even if you do not reside in an area that is affected by the egg recall, be sure to practice standard egg safety habits as a matter of routine.
I always use enerG egg replacer. It’s not made of eggs. I happen to ba allergic but I spend far less on baking ingredients since I’ve used it. It’s safe, no buggers in it. You can’t scramble it though. Buy local if you want safe eggs.
