Which are the Best New Movies for Kids?

By , About.com Guide   December 28, 2009

Follow me on:

Which new movies for kids have you and your family checked out this holiday season?

For one reason or another, my 8-year-old son isn't very excited about any of the new holiday releases. The Princess and the Frog? Despite my best efforts to get him to be more gender-neutral, he is adamantly allergic to anything with the word "princess." The trailers for A Christmas Carol freaked him out (I don't think he liked the realistic un-realness of the motion-capture technology). Alvin and the Chipmunks has been deemed "for babies" and Planet 51 never entered his radar.

Besides, with our tight post-Christmas budget, I'd just as soon not shell out all that money for movie tickets and snacks anyway. Instead, I think we are going to rent a few classic kids' movies and have a great family movie night at home. Even better, we are going to spend a lot more time this winter break with some great books.

A Christmas Carol was very scary! My 7 year old boy made us leave 10 minutes into it. My 13, 10 and 7 year olds all loved the Chipmunks movie. We also saw the Fantastic Mr. Fox and we all LOVED it! I highly recommend it! Some of my friends went to see it and they all loved it as well. We haven’t seen any of the others….good luck!
